The main goal of Google’s search engine algorithms is to provide us the most relevant content out there. After all, relevant content is what keeps us coming back and back again. Search engines use multiple properties to determine if content is relevant and, since august 2014, security is one of them. Google has been pushing their own services to use industry-leading security and now they want to make the web a safer place by rewarding webmasters for providing a secure connection to their visitors.
The use of HTTPS connections has been common among e-commerce and banks for a while. Influencers, publishers and other content providers had no incentive to create a similar environment for their visitors until now. A wider adoption HTTPS means that every internet user can safely browse the internet without someone watching over their shoulder.
