How do I configure my email in Gmail?



Before you follow this faq, first check if your e-mail is hosted by miWebb!

On this page we will explain how you can receive your email in Gmail.
You need the following information:

  • Your e-mail adress;
  • Your email Password;
  • Your website address.

Step 1 – Add your account

Login in your gmail account where you want to receive the e-mail. Click on the gear in the top right-hand corner of the screen (Figure 1) and click on Settings. You will be presented with the Gmail settings screen (Figure 2). At the top, choose the Accounts and Import tab. On this screen you can manage your various e-mail accounts (Figure 3). On the row Check mail from other accounts, click Add a mail account. There will be a popup screen with a wizard that will guide you through the process.

Step 2 – Configure e-mail account

The first screen of the wizard (Figure 4) asks for your e-mail address, enter the e-mail address from which you want to receive the e-mail. Then click Next. In the next screen, select Import emails from my other account (POP3) and click Next. In this screen, Gmail asks for the login details and the server address to be able to retrieve e-mails (Figure 5).

  • After Username, enter your e-mail address again;
  • After Password, enter the password of your e-mail address;
  • Usually Gmail has already found the POP Server, but if this is not the case, enter your website address with mail. before it. Is your website address example.org? Then enter mail.example.org;
  • Select port 995.

If you use multiple devices for your e-mail address, do you want to view your e-mail in the webmail or do you want to leave a copy of your e-mail on the server as backup, tick then the checkbox Leave a copy or retrieved message on the server. Also tick Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail. The third and fourth ticks are optional. If you have filled in everything, click Add Account. Once the account has been added, Gmail will ask if you also want to send emails with this email address via Gmail. If this is the case select Yes and press Next. Then proceed to step 3.

Step 3 – Send e-mails

A new wizard opens. In the first screen, Gmail asks which name it should display when sending your e-mails. Enter the name you want people to see here. Click Next Step. In the next screen, Gmail asks for the log-in data needed to send e-mails via our servers (Figure 6). These settings are very similar to those of receiving e-mails:

  • Usually Gmail has already found the SMTP Server, but if this is not the case, enter your website address with mail. before. Is your website address example.org? Then enter mail.example.org.
  • Leave the port at 587.
  • Fill in your e-mail address after Username;
  • After Password, enter the password of your e-mail address;
  • Leave Secured connection using TSL selected.

Then click on Add Account. Gmail will send a verification e-mail to your e-mail address before it can send e-mails. Open the e-mail on one of your other devices, your webmail or, if step 2 is successfully completed, your Gmail account and copy the verification code. Then paste the verification code into the wizard and click on verify. The wizard will close and you can now receive and send emails via Gmail.
